CAROL ROCKWELL MAA CPA

About the Artist

Carol Pelno Rockwell, MAA, CPA

In Her Own Little World, 3 5/8 x 5 5/8"

"I enjoy creating miniatures because of the detail and the fact that each miniature painting reflects something from my life which I can share with others.

"Ethelyn Woodlock beame my greatest influence and mentor, introducing me to the world of miniature art. I only had to see her work once, and I was challenged to become a fine miniature artist.

"I began working in Miniature in 1982, because it fascinated me, and because I enjoyed it very much. My work is traditional. I try to express the feeling that I had when I saw the scene myself. I strive to achieve a style that is my own, so that when someone views my work they know that I painted it without looking at my name.

"I do a sketch of the subject, fill in the base colors in areas and then start working in the detail.

"My miniatures resemble my large work but are more detailed, although my large work has become more detailed too, as a result of my miniatures.

"My criteria encompass composition, lighting, design, color and movement. These are all necessary components for a fine art miniature

"Sometimes when I paint a miniature, it brings back such fond memories that I find it hard to part with it. Most of the work I do, though, is sent to miniature shows and usually has to be for sale.. Sometimes you are fortunate enough to be given a gift. I think painting was my gift. Painting is my first love, and I hope that I am able to capture the essence of the subject that I am painting so that the viewer enjoys the results and purchases it for their enjoyment."
